The Pedal Bike

Frequently Asked Questions

Tours and Clinics

Things you probably want to know.

Does The Pedal Bike only provide beginner level tours?

No. Options exist for all skill levels. But, we are passionate about getting families outside together and go out of our way to ensure their unique needs are met with many family-friendly experiences.

What type of fitness is required?

Tours and clinics designated “Beginner” exist for those without mountain bike specific skills and assume participants have little to no cycling specific fitness.

Where do you operate?

Tours are held all throughout San Diego County. Our clinics are held at two locations: Mission Trails Regional Park and Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve.

Does The Pedal Bike rent bikes and gear?

Not at this time. Participants are required to provide their own. Please see specific trip details regarding required and recommended items

Can parents join student clinics?

Yes. And we encourage it. There is no fee for you to join. Also, what other opportunity exists to learn mountain bike fundamentals for free?

Are eBikes allowed?

Yes. We have dedicated clinics for those with eBikes.

Should I tip my tour guide or coach?

Your call. Gratuity is not required or expected, but it’s certainly appreciated! 10% per participant is industry standard. If moved to tip based on exceptional service, support, and expertise, pull your guide or instructor to the side post-event and share the love.

Which event is right for me?

Depends on what you’re looking for. If interest is in becoming a better rider, our 6-week skills clinics are comprehensive, insightful, and a lot of fun! If a guided tour is what you’re after, our family friendly and advanced tours are great choices.

What about specific details?

The post-booking email includes all of the information needed. Details are clear, concise, and specific so you aren’t left wandering. And wondering.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please review it here.

Are instructors and guide certified?

Yes. Everyone on our team is a certified Ride Leader and, at minimum, BICP Level 1 Fundamental Skills Instructor.

For more information, check out the certifying body, BICP.

What if it rains?

Weather happens. If necessary, your tour or clinic will be rescheduled and you will be notified ASAP, though the decision will be last minute. Please keep in mind that cancellation initiated by The Pedal Bike due to inclement weather is made to preserve both the experience and the trails. If our rescheduling options don’t work for you, we will offer a 100% refund. No questions.

What are the minimum requirements to attend a tour or clinic?

Please see your events specific details prior to booking.

Store

Things you probably didn’t know and are glad you know now.

Where can I get my bike tuned up?

There are a lot of good shops in town. We like the crew at Black Mountain Bicycles. Show your booking receipt to the service crew and get a discount on all safety related accessories.

Helmets, pads, footwear, gloves, sunglasses, and more.

I’m interested in a new bike. What does The pedal Bike recommend?

Glad you asked. After booking a tour or clinic, get 10% off Haro kids and adult mountain bikes. We’ve got their Flighline 24+ Disc kids shredder and burly Saguaro hardtails ready to get you into the sport and on the trail without breaking the bank.

Does The Pedal Bike sell bikes?

See above. We are not a bicycle shop and don’t sell items a typical shop would. And should. However, with a booking, you’ll be eligible for 10% off Haro kids and adult mountain bikes.

We will have demos on site to see, touch, and test. If interested in purchasing, a link will be emailed where you can finalize the purchase through our website.

How do I get my bike once purchased?

To keep costs low, we have no overhead; no inventory. Bikes are ordered on-demand. Once we receive, assemble, and safety check it, we’ll deliver! If not backordered, you’ll have your new ride in about a week.

I changed my mind about the purchased bike. Can I return it?

No. Sales are final. However, we’re people and understand that getting stuck with something you don’t want, sucks. Let’s chat. If not ridden or damaged, we’d be happy to exchange it for another size or different model.

I’m too impatient to wait a week for my new bike. What should I do?

Tell your inner-consumer that patience won’t kill you and that the ride will be appreciated with the very small wait.
